Privacy policy

Last updated 13 October 2026

This explains what Second Nile collects when you donate or create an account, why we hold it, and how to get a copy or have it deleted. We do not sell donor information and we do not share it with other organisations.

What we collect

Only what a donation or an account needs:

  • Your name and email address, so we can send a receipt and reach you about your giving.
  • Your phone number, if you choose to add one to your account. It is optional and nothing requires it.
  • A dedication, if you write one with a donation.
  • Your donation history: amounts, dates, which programme each gift went to, and whether it was one-time or monthly.

We never see or store your full card number. Payment details are entered directly with our payment processors, who return only the card brand and last four digits so you and we can tell one saved card from another. Nothing more than that reaches our systems.

How we use it

  • Taking your donation and sending a receipt for your tax records.
  • Showing your giving history in your account, and letting you manage or cancel monthly giving.
  • Occasional email about the programme you supported. Every one has an unsubscribe link.
  • Meeting the record-keeping a registered nonprofit is required to do.

Your name is not shown publicly unless you turn that on yourself in your account. It is off by default.

Who else handles it

Only the services that make the site work. Each sees the minimum its job needs, and none of them may use it for their own purposes.

  • Stripe and PayPal, to process payments. Card details go to them directly.
  • Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in.
  • Resend, which sends receipts and email.
  • Vercel, which hosts the site.
  • Cloudflare R2, Cloudinary and Google Drive, which store project photographs and video.
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with a Google account.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it. Beyond that, nobody. We have never sold donor data and this policy commits us not to.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember small preferences such as a filter you have chosen. Our payment processors set their own cookies on the donation form, which they use to detect fraud. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not track you across other websites.

Your choices

  • Get a copy. Your account has an export that gives you everything we hold about you.
  • Correct it. Your name, email and phone are editable in your account at any time.
  • Delete it. You can request deletion from your account. There is a 14 day grace period, after which your personal details are removed permanently.
  • Stop the email. Every message has an unsubscribe link, and using it does not affect your giving or your account.

One thing deletion cannot remove: the record of a donation itself. A registered nonprofit has to keep the financial record of gifts it has received, so the transaction stays even though your personal details are removed from it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over an encrypted connection and is stored with access restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfect, and we would rather say that plainly than claim otherwise. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.

Children

The site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will remove it.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Where a change materially affects what we do with information we already hold, we will email account holders rather than rely on you noticing.
